Global Scholar Program

D.C. Everest School District and Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
The Global Scholars Program (GSP) prepares high school students in Wisconsin to be workforce and world-ready with global competence.
Globally competent students pursue knowledge about the world, value diverse perspectives, communicate across languages and cultures, and take action to improve conditions in our interdependent world. School communities that participate in the Global Scholars Program are committed to providing learning experiences, within and beyond the curriculum, to support global learning. Global Scholar Recipient Testimonials and Advice
“The knowledge you will gain from talking to someone different from you is invaluable and essential to gaining a deeper understanding of the world we all live in.”
“By participating in this program I have learned a lot about cultures and customs different from mine. The ability to connect with and understand those different from oneself is a vital skill to have in navigating the world. The Global Scholars program not only bettered my preparedness and social skills going into college, it also encouraged me to seek out new perspectives and information, becoming more globally conscious in the process… If I were to give advice to future students it would simply be: don’t be afraid to learn.”
“For future students, I encourage them to connect as much as they can with their community, because success can only be achieved through the help of strong connections around you. I advise my community to be more accepting to people that may not look at them or come from the same background.”
“Being a student of the Global Scholars program is one of the best high school experiences I was fortunate enough to be a part of. Learning about other cultures not only helped me to be more educated about the world around me but also helped me to grow in compassion and empathy for those outside of the US.”
“If I were to give one piece of advice to future program students, it would be to always have an open mind. Whether something is related to your interests or not, you never know where a new experience will take you. The inspiration I have gained by participating in things outside my comfort zone throughout this program has resulted in realizations I would not have had otherwise…”
“By being a Global Scholar, students can find their interest, invest in their education, and take advantage of opportunities that may otherwise not be available. In addition, students grow in their confidence, communication, and leadership as they must take charge of their opportunities, work towards their goals, and make themselves accountable for achieving the Global Scholars award. This program truly allows students to be their learners and be advocates for the world.”
“Global Scholars was an attempt for me to become more involved with things at our school. I joined it and I had no idea what it entailed. I am forever grateful that I did because I was embraced with knowledge that I could never imagine. I got to understand how certain events of our world impacted people, and different cultures that are important to people.”
“I think I enjoyed it because I have many friends that are of different ethnicities so I got to discover some of their cultures too. Global scholars helped me achieve many different projects that made me understand the inner workings of our earth and to understand people I may never get to meet, but that I will now know by heart.”
