Makerspace
About the Makerspace
As 21st century career opportunities continue to evolve at a rapid pace, the D.C. Everest school district continues to expand student access to MakerSpaces — collaborative work spaces where students can collaborate with others, or work independently, on a variety of projects they dream up. Within these spaces, students are given the liberty to create — and in doing so, develop critical life and career skills that will help them adapt to career fields that rapidly change and often involve on-the-job or post-secondary training.
The D.C. Everest Middle School MakerSpace is available to students every Thursday and Friday during WIN time. Here, our students have the opportunity to investigate, create and innovate on their own rather than under a teacher's guidance. They provide the ideas — we provide the materials, supplies and tools!
For example, in the MakerSpace students can enjoy:
- Coding
- 3D printing and/or 3D doodling
- Electronics
- Robot building / Robotics
- Circuits and electricity
- Crafting
- Sewing
- Making jewelry
- Wood working
- Take-a-part sessions
- Inventing
- Virtual reality
- Painting
Support
In the DCEMS MakerSpace, students have a wide variety of opportunities to be creative. They can paint and glue, or they can program robots and explore circuits. The possibilities are nearly endless. As you can imagine, supplies go quickly. Please look over our suggested donation list and keep us in mind when you are cleaning out your closet or basement.
We accept donations all year long. If bringing the materials to the DCE Middle School is difficult, please email Cori Soukup to coordinate a pick-up.
We want our students to keep innovating. Thanks in advance for helping us!
